Introduction
When childhood stops being a safe place
Childhood should be a place where you feel loved, protected and free to be yourself. It should be a time for playing, learning, dreaming and growing up without being afraid of an adult. Yet for some children, that safe space disappears when someone they trusted crosses their boundaries.
A sexual predator may look nothing like the « monster » we imagine. It can be someone the child knows, a family member, an acquaintance, a respected figure, or someone who seems kind and trustworthy.
The manipulation can begin gradually. The child may receive special attention, gifts, compliments, or the feeling of being « special ». Little by little, boundaries get tested, then crossed.
The predator can then use secrecy, fear, guilt, threats or isolation to keep the child from speaking. A child living through this may feel confused. They may wonder whether they did something wrong, whether they will be believed, or what will happen if they tell.
But one thing must be absolutely clear: the responsibility always belongs to the adult who abuses their power. Never to the child.
This book does not seek to excuse, to understand or to justify the predator. It seeks instead to expose the predator's mechanisms of manipulation, to recognise the signals that can put a child in danger, and to give preteens and their parents tools that support protection and safety.
When someone uses spiritual, esoteric or occult beliefs to frighten, control or manipulate a child, those beliefs can become one more way of enforcing silence. No belief, no ritual and no authority ever justifies sexual abuse.
Speaking up can be extremely hard. Some children take months or years to find the words. Others never speak during childhood at all. That does not mean they accepted what happened to them. Sometimes it simply means they were surviving with the means they had.
Above all, this book is a message
- You have the right to speak.
- You have the right to be protected.
- You have the right to say no.
- You are not responsible for an adult's actions.
- And your story does not end with what happened to you.
Surviving can be the beginning of a long road of rebuilding. A road where you learn again to trust, to set boundaries, to find your voice, and to understand that you deserve to be safe.
Because childhood should be a safe place. And when it stops being one, the child deserves someone to help them find that safety again.
